ARTCUBE: “NOTICE” by Alexis Collum

Alexis Collum unveils “NOTICE” at the ArtCube Gallery on Thursday, October 17, in conjunction with Downtown Arts Third Thursday.

Parramore Arts invites everyone to experience Alexis Collum’s immersive art installation, “NOTICE,” curated by Pat Greene in collaboration with the Corridor Project. This beautiful and brilliant installation opens to the public on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the ArtCube, part of Parramore Arts, a gallery without walls at Interstruct, 814 W. Church St., Orlando, FL 32805.

Description of Notice

Collum’s multi-media installation transforms a shipping-container space into a natural landscape. Taking advantage of the ArtCube’s new high-tech audio-visual equipment, projections dance across the walls, merging with murals and plant-size sculptures including a tree built from storm debris. Says Collum: “The art of noticing is at odds with today’s fast-paced society. With soft movements and sounds, NOTICE is an activation of all of the senses towards timeless storylines and moments. Duality, balance, and interwoven connection are represented in nature through cyclical patterns and forms.”

Visitors are invited to interact with found objects in front of the ArtCube and participate in a “take one, leave one” exchange as part of the experience. Join us for a streetside opening night featuring an artist’s talk at 7:45 pm. Free Shuttle from 7-9 pm from the downtown CityArts building at the corner of Pine + Magnolia. Pree parking on site: 814 W. Church St.

Artist’s Statement

Everything is interconnected and experiences duality. These concepts are represented in nature through its cyclical patterns and forms. Trees are a pillar to life, connecting beneath the Earth with their branches, reaching only as tall as their roots go deep. The sun rises and sets as Earth orbits, while the moon reflects, opposes, and balances the sun on its own journey around our planet. Each creature and element holds a crucial role in the balance and survival of all. The art of noticing is at odds with today’s fast-paced society. Slowing, even stopping, to appreciate the simple beauty are viewed as a luxury or momentary practice. This installation returns the viewer to source, providing a wave of peace and relief from high paced distractions.

A time capsule condensing and capturing in a cube, the wisdom, knowledge, magic, and life forces that have preceded us just as they will outlast us. The beauty of imperfections and being part of something greater. Where all that matters is you play your part to experience and participate in the wonders around you.
