Black Bottom House of Prayer

Interstruct Inc. was general contractor leading the renovation and restoration of Black Bottom House of Prayer, an historic church in Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood. After decades of disuse and neglect, the crumbling century-old church suffered a catastrophic roof collapse in 2019. Owner Pastor Dana Jackson secured a grant from Florida African American Cultural and Historical Grants to restore the church in an historically accurate manner while bringing it up to modern safety codes, and turned to Ryan Young and Interstruct to navigate the permitting, design and construction process. The exterior project included tie-beam installation and new concrete and rebar to support the century-old masonry, and design and build of an historically accurate roof and bell tower that meet current hurricane codes. The project took nearly three years to complete, and was named a 2024 Golden Brick Award finalist for Resilience and Sustainability from the Downtown Orlando Partnership.
