AJ Barbel  | Artist Statement

My name is AJ Barbel (AJ DESIGNZ); I’m a painter, and graphic designer. I’ve been an artist pretty much my whole life and look forward to challenging myself by learning and trying new mediums. My murals and canvas pieces are often inspired by elements of culture and history. My intentions have always been to tell stories through symbolism and realism, and other-worldly messages through my art. I’m super excited to dedicate my work to the Parramore community.

My installation is Inspired by Parramore’s rich history, from local pioneers to the historic buildings, such as the Carver Theatre, South Side Casino and Well’s Built Museum & Hotel. I’m always inspired to give back to the community with my art, to show the next generation of youth that they have limitless potential especially when they understand their history and the legacy of where they come from.

ArtCube Opening Night: Third Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023

Barbel’s ArtCube opening night reveal took place street-side at Interstruct, 814 W. Church St. in Parramore. It was an unusually cold night, but heaters, holiday lights and upbeat spirits made for a great vibe. Thanks to all who came out to honor Barbel and be a part of the ArtCube’s evolution as part of Parramore Arts.
Thanks to Tony Ramzy for the outstanding event photography.
