“Home Sweet Suburbia” Opens July 17 at the ArtCube Gallery
This immersive installation reimagines the Florida suburb through the lens of surveillance, nostalgia, and environmental unease. Opening night features original soundscape composition played live by Zouri Eve.
“Home Sweet Suburbia” is an immersive installation designed for the ArtCube, exploring the creeping grip of modernity and the surveillance state on Florida’s natural and suburban landscapes. The space is styled like a nostalgic suburban home, while a live camera feedback system mimics the invasive aesthetic of Ring doorbells, feeding into screens that loop edited footage to highlight the dissension between past and present. A soundscape by Zouri Eve—composed of field recordings, found audio, and analog synthesizers—underscores the visuals, culminating in a live performance on opening night. The installation is a collaborative work by Ethan Alexander Smith, a UCF film student; Lauren Barrett, a recent UCF Film graduate; and Zouri Eve, a UCF music composition student who will perform live on opening night.
All are welcome to opening night on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. as part of Third Thursday Orlando. The event will take place at Interstruct Design + Build, located at 814 W. Church Street in Parramore, with an artists’ talk scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Free onsite parking is available, as well as a complimentary shuttle from CityArts at the corner of Pine and Magnolia in Downtown Orlando.
“Home Sweet Suburbia” will remain on display 24/7 through late September at Interstruct on the West Church Corridor. Best viewed after dark.
