Orange Blossom Family Health at Ivey Lane
Orange Blossom Family Health has increased capacity at their Ivey Lane medical office building in Orlando, furthering the medical center’s mission of providing primary and preventive medical care services for minority and underserved communities.
For the ground-up construction, Interstruct took an unused space of adjacent green space at OBFH’s Ivey Lane office and transformed it into 4,000 SF of new medical office space, including exam rooms, bathrooms, and a staff sunroom created from a westward-facing storefront. The comprehensive medical facility offers an onsite laboratory, vision services and pharmacy.
The HUD Section 3 project was funded by Orange County grants led by Commissioner Bakari Burns, and required that every onsite subcontractor, laborer and vendor be committed to the mission of providing jobs to people in the community. The construction project involved 26 subcontractors, ranging from sitework, concrete and masonry to light gauge framing, drywall and electricians.
Upon award, every subcontractor was given a 48-page document listing the employment parameters, which included paying Davis-Bacon wages, certified payroll and compliance tracking. Periodically, Orange County would send someone out to check the construction site, interviewing workers to ensure compliance with the grant. Ken Hughes and his team at Keeping Projects in Motion was a valued partner in meeting compliance requirements, and connecting Interstruct with a local workforce who might have otherwise been overlooked in job opportunities.
