Winter Wonderland

A recap of the Desire Foundation’s 2021 installment of “A Holiday Hand.”

Give Jennifer H. Desire an inch and she returns a mile. The idea for this year’s A Holiday Hand grew from giving away bikes and scooters to kids to creating a whole winter wonderland with snow, pictures with Santa, a hot chocolate bar with all the sprinkles and marshmallows, a gift wrapping station, gingerbread-house making, and of course, gift giving. When Jenn gets an idea, she just makes it happen. And her winter wonderland created memories for 200 families.

As we did in 2020, Interstruct directed all of our holiday giving to support families in need at this event, based out of our new headquarters at 814 West Church Street in Parramore.

Thank you to all the volunteers who make this happen, to photographer Tony Ramzy who always shows up to document these events, and to Jennifer for spearheading such meaningful work in Parramore.

In 2021 we had 130 volunteers help us with our events; we’re growing into a small army.

1- Father’s Day Grocery Giveaway provided fresh food and pantry items for 250 families.

2- The Blessing Bags event provided hygiene products, haircuts, and lunch for 200 people as well as health screenings.

3- Thanksgiving with a Friend fed 300 people and provided food, clothes, haircut and shoes for 300 people.

4- The Christmas event provided toys, bikes, gift wrapping, hot chocolate bar, haircuts, scooters, dessert bar, Christmas trees and gingerbread houses for 200 kids.

In one year we served at least 950 people.
